Esthetic Crown Lengthening-treatment of the gummy smile
Some individuals upon smiling show more gums (gingiva) than others. We refer to this as a gummy smile. Crown lengthening, specifically esthetic crown lengthening, is where we remove some of the gum tissues exposing more of the underlying tooth. The procedure is performed with a specialized laser around the front of the teeth in the smile zone to show more of your underlying tooth structure. In some cases, the gums are being supported by the underlying bone and that has to be removed as well only on in limited areas. The results are dramatic and can change a smile drastically without having to do anything to the teeth. Each circumstance is different and ranges from simple to complex and may even mean to achieve that ideal result excess bone may need to be removed. Postoperative discomfort is at a minimum though and many patients who have undergone this procedure with RR Dentistry in the past do not even need to take Ibuprofen.
