5 Benefits of Invisalign®

5 Benefits of Invisalign®

When a product gains such notoriety that people describe similar devices using its name, you know it’s a success. But popularity isn’t anywhere near the top of the list of the benefits that Invisalign® offers.

The removable aligner system that debuted in 1998 was the first product using the concept of a series of clear dental trays, similar to sports mouthguards, to gently guide teeth to a new position. Offering a nearly invisible appliance that you can remove when you eat, it’s no wonder that imitators followed.

It’s also a reason why we’re proud to offer Invisalign to our patients at RR Dentistry. We specialize in prescribing and designing an Invisalign treatment plan for your best, healthiest smile.

5 benefits of Invisalign

The first and still the most prominent of clear aligner systems on the market, Invisalign introduced the idea that an ultrastrong thermoplastic, which it called SmartTrack®, could gently move crooked teeth into proper alignment.

It represented a systemic change in treatment options when compared to conventional metal braces. Let’s look at the five primary benefits the Invisalign system offers.

Virtually invisible

Instead of a mouth full of metal, Invisalign introduced a thin and nearly invisible tray system, custom molded for your teeth and mouth, to provide orthodontic care for mild and moderate teeth alignment needs. Unless someone is close to you and very observant, no one will know you’re aligning your teeth.

There’s no cringing teen years with metal-mouth and no stigma for adults past their teen years having obvious orthodontic work. And the only change in your smile is increasingly straighter teeth as your treatment progresses.

Removability

One drawback of conventional braces is dietary changes necessary to ensure that the metal bands remain securely cemented to your teeth — say goodbye to biting into a crisp apple or enjoying corn on the cob for the duration of your braces treatment.

With Invisalign, you continue to enjoy all of the foods you usually eat because you simply pop out the aligner trays for eating and cleaning.

Versatile treatments

Some complex alignment needs are still best handled by conventional orthodontics, though these are typically rare. With Invisalign, we can treat several alignment conditions, including:

This covers a wide range of the most common alignment problems we encounter.

Fewer dentist visits

The Invisalign system works in stages. About every two weeks, you move from one aligner tray to the next one in sequence. Fabricated ahead of time, you cycle through these trays as needed, provided you’re wearing your current trays between 20 and 22 hours a day. You remove the aligners only for eating and drinking, for brushing and flossing, and for cleaning the trays themselves.

You visit our office only for periodic checks on your progress, rather than having to make several appointments for adjustments that come with traditional metal braces.

Faster treatments

In many cases, Invisalign completes your alignment treatment months or even years faster than traditional braces. Combined with fewer dentist visits, Invisalign doesn’t dominate your schedule or your life.
